What's your placement fee?
For permanent placements, our fee is 18 to 22 percent of the candidate's first year base salary, paid only when they accept the offer. Executive search (CTO, VP Eng) is 25 to 30 percent and retained. Contract staffing is hourly markup, billed weekly.
How fast can you fill a role?
Mid to senior individual contributor roles average 2 to 4 weeks from brief to signed offer. Junior roles can be faster (1 to 3 weeks). Niche stacks or executive search takes 6 to 12 weeks. We always tell you upfront if a role is going to be tough so you can plan accordingly.
Do you place junior or only senior developers?
We place across all four tiers: junior (1 to 3 years), intermediate (3 to 6 years), senior (6 to 10 years), and engineering leadership. Most of our volume sits in the mid to senior range, but we have placement experience at every level. Tell us what you need.
How do you vet candidates?
3 stage internal process. (1) Recruiter screen for fit, comp expectations, and notice period. (2) Technical assessment by a senior engineer in their stack. (3) Two reference checks from previous managers. You only see candidates who pass all three.
Do you have a replacement guarantee?

Where are your candidates physically based?
Across Canada and India. The mix depends on the role. For permanent in country hires we focus on Canadian candidates. For contract staffing or roles where remote is fine, we source from both pools. India based candidates commit to EST shifted hours.
What if a candidate I interview is not the right fit?
Tell us why and we recalibrate. We typically present 2 to 4 finalists per role. If none work, we go back to sourcing. No additional cost. We'd rather find the right person than push the wrong one.
Do you work with US clients, or only Canadian?
Both. Canadian clients receive invoices with GST/HST. US clients are billed in USD. Most of our roles serve US and Canadian tech teams, with some EU and UK clients too.
What's the difference between permanent placement, contract staffing, and contract to hire?
Permanent placement: candidate goes on your payroll as a full time employee. We get a one time fee. Contract staffing: candidate stays on our payroll, you pay us hourly. We handle HR, taxes, benefits. Contract to hire: starts as contract, converts to permanent after 3 to 6 months with no conversion buyout fee.
Can you handle executive search for CTO or VP Engineering?
Yes. Retained executive search with weekly progress reports, dedicated researcher, and a curated slate of 4 to 6 finalists. We headhunt passively employed leaders at competitors and adjacent companies. Typical time to fill is 6 to 12 weeks.
Do you have an MSA or agency agreement we need to sign?
Yes. We have a simple Master Services Agreement that takes 1 to 2 days through legal. It covers fee structure, replacement guarantee, IP, confidentiality, and payment terms (Net 30). We're happy to use yours if your company has a preferred template.
Are you a recruitment agency or a staffing agency?
Both. Velora Vice is a hybrid recruitment and staffing agency. Permanent placement (recruitment) where the candidate joins your payroll, and contract staffing where engineers stay on our payroll and we bill you hourly. Many Canadian agencies do one or the other. We do both because Canadian companies hire both ways.
